A LIFE LIVED

In The Father’s Eyes ~ Michael Nin
[Intro]
[Verse 1]
I woke between the seconds
Where the light forgets its name
Every sound feels borrowed
Every thought repeats the same
The walls hum like a secret
The floor breathes underfoot
I’m standing in the question
Of what’s false and what’s good
[Verse 2]
I hear the past in fragments
Like a radio at dawn
Every truth is half remembered
Every reason feels withdrawn
I tried to hold the silence
But it slipped through my hands
Now I’m tracing all the outlines
Of lives I don’t understand
Standing in the Father’s eyes
Standing…
Ooooh…
Ahhh…
In the Father’s…
Ooooh…
Eyes
[Chorus]
There’s a room that remembers our names
Ahhh… ooooh…
Where the voices return all the same
Ooooh… ahhh…
Children grow and the circle remains
Ahhh… Standing
We arrive, we depart, we remain
Ahhh… In
We arrive, we depart, we remain
Ooooh… the Father’s
We arrive, we depart, we remain
Ahhh… the Father’s
[Bridge]
Time moves on without us
Names loosen, fall away
Hands release what they were holding
Night replaces day
Born into the leaving
Leaving as we come
Every breath already fading
Before it’s done
Standing in the Father’s eyes
Footsteps linger after sound
What was near is moving on
What we were is never gone
It keeps turning, carrying on
We arrive, we depart, we remain
Ahhh… Standing
We arrive, we depart, we remain
In the Father’s eyes
Ahhh…
Ooooh…
Ahhh…
Ahhh — Standing — ahhh
Ahhh — In the Father’s eyes
Ooooh — Standing
Ahhh — In the Father’s eyes

Standing In The Father’s Eyes — Liner Notes
Standing in the Father’s Eyes is less a traditional song and more a meditation on existence, memory, and the quiet passage of time. The piece grew out of a moment that caught me unexpectedly. A friend had invited me to a Christian gathering — a place I had never been before. Standing in the sanctuary, surrounded by a stillness that felt both unfamiliar and deeply human, I began hearing melodies and fragments of words forming in my mind.
The lyrics reflect that sense of awakening — the feeling of stepping into a space where the past, present, and future seem to blur together and deeper questions begin to surface. Voices echo, names fade, and yet something constant remains. Beneath all the movement of life — the arrivals, the departures, the endless turning of time — there is a sense that we are still being seen, still held within something greater than ourselves.
The phrase “Standing in the Father’s eyes” represents that perspective — the idea that our lives unfold within a larger awareness that remembers even when we forget. Musically, the piece dissolves rather than resolves, with voices fading into breath and tone, reflecting the same quiet mystery that first inspired the song in that sanctuary.
